Studies on the Physiology of Bolting and Flowering in Raphanus sativus L.

Abstract
Vernalized and non-vernalized Comet (European type radish), Jinjoodaepyong (Jin. North Chinese type radish) and Altali (North Chinese type) were grown under 20 and 24 hour day length at the 220(20), 410(45) and 650 KmW/§³(70KIux) artificial light. These lights were combined with high pressure mercury plus high pressure sodium lamps(1 : 1 installed wattage) for confirming the response of reproductive growth in various light energy levels and day length.
1. The number of differentiated leaves of Comet decreased in the high light energy, however, Jin. and Altali had a similar number of differentiated leaves in the various light energy.
2. All the experimental varieties produced more leaves in the 20 hour day length than in the 24 hour day length.
3. The number of differentiated leaves of non-vernalized Comet was similar to vernalized Comet under the high light energy.
4. In Comet, the number of differentiated leaves showed highly negative correlation with the flowering rate.
